| Who is In: Restaurants who buy paper straws |
|
| What the Need Is: a straw that the customer actually likes |
|
Why the Need Exists: Because a new Alachua county law outlawed plastic straws, leaving customers upset with paper straws
| Outside the boundary |
Who is Not: People who are not in a county that has outlawed plastic straws, therefore they can still give out the plastic ones What the Need is Not: Biodegradable plastic straws because they can use plastic ones without being fined. Alternative Explanations: This market does not affect them yet, at least, because they can continue to use plastic straws hat customers love. |

I found that my opportunity definitely exists because there are a lot of unhappy customers in Gainesville compared to people who reside in places like Clearwater who still use plastic straws. I interviewed people from different parts of the state for this part because I wanted to see how they felt about the straw crisis. It was interesting to learn that most, especially when they live in a place where straws are not discussed, did not even know about the straw epidemic. They discussed how they did not even think about the use of their straw, because they know they can use as many plastic straws and they want and they will be easily accessible for them. When I interviewed people prior, they were upset about the straws, but the common denominator was that they lived in a place with paper straws, which clearly made them mad. From my research I found that my business would target the restaurants who were forced to use paper straws, and supply them with my biodegradable, plastic straw textured straw, which would make their customers happy. I do not think my market would be the restaurants that are not affected by the outlaw of plastic straws because they already have an abundant amount of straws, and a supply. My straw would cost more than what their plastic straws did and therefore they would not be a good customer. I would want to target places on the beach, also, because they would not be allowed to use plastic straws as well. I think there is a market out there for me, specifically to the restaurants because they want their customers to be happy.
I agree with how your market only includes restaurants affected by the outlaw of plastic straws. Other restaurants have no need to switch around their supplies for something that is not an issue to them or their customers. I like how you said you want to target restaurants at beaches as well. Plastic straws are a big issue here because of how they can harm sea life ("save the turtles"). These restaurants would definitely be a big market.
ReplyDeleteYour post is very easy to understand and you made it very clear who is inside and outside of the boundary. I agree with your statement about how only restaurants in areas where plastic straws are outlawed has this issue. I also believe that there are different alternatives, besides paper straws that would make people happier. For example, at Disney World has paper straws with cardboard around the paper, so it doesn't fall apart as easily.
ReplyDeleteHello, I love your idea because I am not a fan of paper straws. Personally, I must use two straws in order to finish one beverage. Within your post, I would like to have seen some direct comments from the people you interviewed. I feel like they are vital and help stress the urgency of your idea taking effect. Other than that good job!
ReplyDeleteHey Danielle, this sounds like a wonderful idea since paper straws aren't really a hot commodity. Using biodegradable straws fulfills the environmental side while also satisfying the customer. Aside from that, including details from your interviews may give the reader a better sense of understanding. It'll allow them to think about their answers to the questions and how closely they're related with those that were interviewed.
